Uma Bista is a documentary photographer from Nepal. She works on visual narratives that focus on issues of social, cultural, familial, personal, political, and psychological perspectives of gender inequality in Nepal. She is an alumnus of Pathshala South Asian Media Institute, Dhaka, Bangladesh, and Angkor photo workshop, Siem Reap, Cambodia. She is a Magnum Foundation Photography and Social Justice Fellow in 2020. She is a current fellow of VII academy. She is an Advisory Committee member in Women Photograph. Uma was named in the British Journal of Photography’s annual “Ones to Watch 2019”. She received a multimedia grant (2016) from Nepal Photo Project to work on Nepal Earthquake 2015. She also received a ROW artist grant from the British Council in 2018. Her works “Our Songs from the Forest”, “Stay Home, Sisters”, “Boundless” and other works are being published and exhibited nationally and internationally.
